A 20-year-old Venezuelan woman is in a coma and fighting for her life at the Arzobispo Loayza Hospital, following being the victim of alleged medical negligence at a dental office, located in Chorrillos, Peru.
According to the victim’s sister, who only calls her Leydy, she went to have a tooth pulled and it all started with severe pain that she felt from the second day, which she reported to the dentists who treated her. However, they told her that she was normal.
«She came here to the clinic to extract a third left molar, but it turns out that that ended in tragedy. She swelled up so much that she wasn’t breathing. She notified the doctors from day one and they said it was a normal process,” said the woman in dialogue with ATV News.
«From the second day she was already ill, she began to swell so much that it was abnormal. She wasn’t breathing, her neck and chest swelled; she went several days without eating. The situation was difficult, even, these doctors have made her a drain, a bad procedure because at the time of draining her, they have generalized this bacteria, “she added.
He mentioned that they have spent close to 30,000 soles to cover the care of his sister, who is still hospitalized in the intensive care area of the Loayza hospital.
“They give her daily transfusions. She has hematological damage that causes her to bleed and so far she has had more than 90 transfusions, blood that I owe to the hospital so far and, obviously, what I need is donors, “she asserted.
For this reason, he asks the dentists, identified as: Erek Espinoza Maldonado and Caleb Mendoza, to be responsible for all expenses. In addition, he denounced that both would have been attending in a place without an operating license and would not have the specialty to do this type of dental procedures.
“The clinic does not have the permits from Susalud and neither of the two doctors has the right specialty to do the procedure,” said Leydy’s sister, who revealed what the dentists say regarding the case, “he said.
«They only say that they are sad, that they want Leydy to get better, that they want to see the humanitarian part, but nothing, they do not respond to anything. And when I ask them for the medical history, they disappear, they never respond once more », he declared to the Popular portal.
