No agreement on rules for deep-sea mining before deadline – ecology

KINGSTON – The last Council meeting of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) ahead of a deadline to regulate deep-sea mining has ended with no binding outcome. At their almost two-week meeting at the ISA headquarters in Jamaica’s capital Kingston on Friday (local time), the 36 Council member states only agreed to continue an informal dialogue until the next meeting in July – one day following the deadline.
