Windows search bar not working

The Windows search bar is extremely important for navigation. Many, like me, simply can no longer use the computer without her help.

Turns out, in a recent Windows 10 and 11 update, it just stopped working on some computers. If this happened to you too, check out how to fix it.

If your search bar, like mine, suddenly stopped working, you can understand the frustration of trying to search for a file and simply not seeing anything you type. But don’t worry, the solution mightn’t be simpler:

???? Troubleshooting: restart the computer. The solution may seem a little silly, but it was what solved the problem for me and other writers here at Oficina da Net.

Yes, exactly! By restarting the computer, Windows manages to “solve” many of the problems related to the operating system. Think of the following analogy: if you are lost but you know the way, all you have to do is go back to the beginning. If you keep looking for the path you already know, you’ll probably go in circles, won’t you? The computer works the same way: it knows the way, if you provide the familiar starting point (by restarting the machine), it works normally.

Remember to hit the restart button. When you power cycle it, the computer doesn't actually restart.

????Alert! Remember to press the “restart” button so that the computer restarts correctly. Otherwise, when you power cycle it, the computer goes into an advanced sleep state, but it doesn’t actually restart.
