Assistant at HEC Liège secretly filmed students in restroom

Despite being a doctoral student and assistant in economics for six years, an individual was fired from HEC Liège, the University of Liège’s management school. As per RTBF reports, the assistant recorded young women in the institution’s toilets without their knowledge, which was discovered by school maintenance staff last Monday. The authorities were informed immediately, and the perpetrator was identified with the help of the initial footage. The person was taken into custody and later acknowledged that they had been committing this offense for a year. The administration decided to terminate the contract of the accused while all the toilets in HEC’s buildings, as well as across the campus, were inspected for any recording devices. Additionally, HEC filed a complaint and a civil action once morest the individual for the offense. The investigation is ongoing, but the accused is currently out on bail.

HEC Liège, the management school of the University of Liège, announced to its students that an assistant had been fired for having filmed young women without their knowledge in the toilets of the establishment, explains RTBF.

Last Monday, school maintenance staff discovered recording devices in the women’s restroom. “We immediately called the police. We reviewed the first images to try to identify the suspect and we managed to identify him.” explains Anne Girin, administrator of ULiège, to our colleagues.

He is a doctoral student and assistant in economics who had been in the establishment for 6 years. Arrested by the police, the man admitted the facts and confessed that he had been doing this for a year. He was released Wednesday, but the investigation continues.

In the meantime, HEC Liège has terminated his contract. All toilets have been inspected, in HEC buildings, but also across the campus. “We filed a complaint and we filed a civil action“, concludes Anne Girin.

The incident at HEC Liège is a stark reminder that privacy is a fundamental right that must always be respected. It is unacceptable for anyone to violate that right, and we commend the university for taking swift action to address the issue. We hope that the affected students are receiving the support they need during this time, and we urge all educational institutions to prioritize their students’ safety and well-being. In conclusion, let us all remember that our actions have consequences, and we must always strive to treat others with the respect and dignity they deserve.
