Osama Shobokshi, the “doctor,” “minister,” and “diplomat,” passes away.

Dr. Osama Shobokshi, the former Minister of Health and former Ambassador of the Kingdom to Germany, passed away at the age of 80 following a long illness. The funeral prayer will take place for him today in the Juffali Mosque, Saudi Arabia. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, expressed his condolences to the family and relatives of Dr. Osama Shobokshi. Dr. Shobokshi contributed significantly to the medical field throughout his life, and following obtaining his Bachelor’s degree in Medicine from the University of “Erlangen” in Germany, he worked as a lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine, King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, and held several leadership positions in the field of health. He was appointed Minister of Health during the period from 1416 AH to 1424 AH, during the reign of King Fahd, and later he served as the Kingdom’s ambassador to Germany. Dr. Osama Shobokshi’s contributions in the medical and educational fields will be remembered.

The former Minister of Health and former Ambassador of the Kingdom to Germany, Dr. Osama Shobokshi, died following suffering from illness, at the age of 80.

The funeral prayer will be held for the deceased following the Asr prayer, today, Friday, in the Juffali Mosque, and the burial will be in the “Mother Eve” cemetery in Jeddah Governorate.

On behalf of the Ministry’s employees, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, offered his deepest condolences and sincere sympathy to the family and relatives of Dr. Osama Shobokshi, praying to the Lord – the Almighty – to have mercy on him and dwell him in his spacious paradise.

A number of doctors, media professionals, and activists mourned Dr. Shobokshi, asking God Almighty to baptize him with the abundance of his mercy, enumerating his exploits and contributions in many fields.

The late was born in Jeddah in 1943 AD, and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine from the University of “Erlangen” in Germany. He also obtained a doctorate in internal diseases from the University of “Erlangen” in Germany, and he received an honorary fellowship from the Irish Royal College of Surgeons.

Shobokshi worked as a lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine, King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, and held a number of leadership positions in the field of health, a member of a number of hospital boards, and a director of King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah in December 1993.

Dr. Shobokshi was appointed Minister of Health during the period from 1416 AH to 1424 AH, during the reign of King Fahd, and then an advisor at the Royal Court, and he was appointed as the Kingdom’s ambassador to Germany.

Dr. “Bobokshi” recounted during a previous interview with him on the “Meeting from Zero” program on “MbC” the details of his meeting with King Fahd – may God have mercy on him – and his appointment as director of King Abdulaziz University, indicating that he had received a call from Prince Majid inviting him to have lunch with the Minister of Interior. He pointed out that while he was there he was asked to go to the Court immediately, and upon his arrival he was surprised by King Fahd waiting for him and took some pictures with him, and gave him good tidings that he would be the director of King Abdulaziz University, so he thanked him and went home confused, and the next day the royal order was issued to appoint a successor to Dr. Reda Obaid, and began working at the university in 1414 AH.



The passing of Dr. Osama Shobokshi is a great loss for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He was a distinguished figure in the field of health and diplomacy, and his contributions will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. May he rest in peace and his legacy continue to inspire future generations.
