The Aviation and Alternative Fuels Conference’s third edition secured by the UAE as the host country.

The General Authority of Civil Aviation represented the UAE and won the bid to host the third edition of the conference on aviation and alternative fuels related to clean energy and the environment during the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) session held in Montreal, Canada. All member states of the council unanimously voted for the UAE as the conference’s host. In preparation for the country’s hosting of the Conference on Aviation and Alternative Fuels, the UAE plans to host the twenty-eighth session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (28COP), which coincides with the country’s declaration of 2023 as the “Year of Sustainability,” demonstrating its leadership in the aviation sector’s climate change and fuel file. The conference will focus on renewable energy and sustainable economic development, discussing climate challenges and solutions to combat them. The UAE’s continued leadership in climate change and achievements in environmental action helped it obtain the confidence of the International Civil Aviation Organization’s member states. The UAE, represented by the General Authority of Civil Aviation, won the hosting of the third edition of the conference on aviation and alternative fuels related to the file of the environment and clean energy, which is held every seven years, during the session of the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization “ICAO” that was held recently at the organization’s headquarters in Montreal – Canada. The decision came unanimously by all the member states of the Council.

His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq Al-Marri, Minister of Economy and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, said: “The country’s hosting of the Conference on Aviation and Alternative Fuels coincides with its preparations to host the twenty-eighth session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (28COP), which It represents a global platform and an important opportunity to achieve a set of combined goals, the most important of which is facilitating the global transition to a green economy, achieving sustainability, economic diversification and increasing growth, in addition to discussing climate challenges and optimal solutions to confront them, as it is in line with the UAE’s declaration of 2023 as the year of sustainability, which enhances efforts The country is leading the climate change file in the aviation sector at the regional level, and the fuel file at the global level.

His Excellency added: “The next stage will witness the strengthening of joint action in order to address the environmental and climatic challenges facing the world, which will contribute to achieving the objectives of the country’s national strategies.”

For his part, Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, said: “The UAE has a proven track record in environmental action and regional and international cooperation to address the challenges of climate change. The UAE is an ideal destination for holding this important conference, especially with the country’s recent announcement of the climate neutrality decision for the national aviation sector, as the country is today considered one of the pioneering countries in the field of sustainable fuels, and low-carbon fuels in the aviation sector in particular.
