The day before, a statement gave a little more detail regarding the breathing difficulties he was suffering from: “As part of the scheduled clinical checks, it was found that the Holy Father was suffering from infectious bronchitis which required the administration of antibiotic therapy by infusion which produced the expected effects with a marked improvement in his state of health. .”
Other health tests
The 86-year-old Holy Father was hospitalized at midday on Wednesday March 29. In recent days he had complained of “breathing difficulties”, which resulted in hospitalization at the Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic in Rome for medical examinations to be carried out.

In July 2021, Pope Francis had spent ten days in this same hospital, for a major colon operation. Since May 2022, due to chronic knee pain, he has been in a wheelchair, pain which had notably pushed him to postpone his trip to the DRC and South Sudan, initially planned for the summer of 2022.
In 1957, because of pleurisy, part of one of his lungs was removed.
