From today, travelers can take the metro from the center of Rotterdam to the beach in 40 minutes: years later than expected, the Metro aan Zee stopped for the first time this morning at the new Hoek van Holland Strand stop, says NOS.
Until yesterday, the metro stopped at the port of Hook of Holland and travelers had to travel the last stretch to the beach by bus, following a few minutes walk to the bus stops at the port.

In recent weeks, the section has been traveled without passengers as a final test: according to RET, the test would have been satisfactory and following the thousand delays, however, the section is now working. Unforeseen costs led to delays and for this a further 90 million euros were released from a budget of 365 million euros, the director of RET told Rijnmond.
The Metro runs three times an hour on weekdays and Saturday followingnoons to and from Hoek van Holland Beach. In the evening and on Sunday every half hour. On Sundays from Ascension Day and during the summer holidays, the subway will increase its runs up to one every 15 minutes during the day.
