O Instagram is adding yet another feature to make it easier to share private content with friends, this time focusing on collectionswhich were introduced in 2017 and allow grouping thematic content in one place.
Since launch, collections might only be viewed and edited exclusively by their creator, but the social network is collaborative collectionsfeature that will put an end to this limitation.
With the novelty, it is now possible to group publications in thematic collections both in individual chats and in groups — which makes it possible to keep content that is of mutual interest between the parties in a dedicated space. It is basically the “formalization” of the traditional sharing of links via DM.
The option to create a collaborative collection appears every time the user taps the traditional button to save a post. After giving a name and actually creating them, they will appear in the “Saved” section — which is where private collections are already saved.
Once the collection is created, any member (whether in the individual chat or in the group) can add or remove posts. It is even possible to add posts shared in a chat directly to a collaborative collection – which eliminates the need to do that long scroll in the DM to look for certain content sent.
By tapping the save button next to each post that is shared in chat, you can either add it to an existing collaborative collection or create a new one directly from there.
As well noted by TechCrunchcollaborative collections can be very useful for planning group trips or even serving as a “meme bank” for you and your friends to have at your fingertips.
