Lucio Dupuy’s grandparents criticized opposition senators for not addressing the law against child violence

The grandparents of Lucio Dupuy, the 5-year-old boy murdered in November 2021 in Santa Rosa, repudiated this Thursday the attitude of opposition senators who did not provide a quorum in the first session of the year and asked them to “reflect” and ” think of the boys” so that the Lucio Law, one of the projects that were going to be voted on, can be approved.

“We came with the illusion of taking the law with us. The commitment and the word was. I don’t know what happened that they got up and left,” said Lucio’s grandfather, Ramón Dupuy, in statements to the press following the Senate session fell.

During the frustrated day, one of the projects that were going to be discussed was the Lucio Law, which aims to train State personnel on the rights of children to prevent cases of abuse and violence.

“I ask that you please approve it. They play with the feelings of a dead five-year-old boy and of many boys who are in need of it. We leave very sad from here. We traveled 640 kilometers to leave empty-handed,” said Dupuy, who asked legislators to “please reflect” since it is regarding “the lives of children and adolescents” and the “future of Argentina.”

For her part, Lucio’s grandmother, Silvia Gómez, also said she felt “bitter and disappointed” and stressed that her grandson “has no political support” and that they have been “fighting for the law” for a year and four months.

“What happened today shouldn’t have happened. They would have to think of the boys. We lost Lucio due to the responsibilities of many institutions. We don’t have Lucio but we continue to fight for the boys that remain, ”he added.

The first session of the year of the Senate failed when the opposition withdrew from the premises amid cross recriminations, following the ruling party rejected a request to alter the order of the issues to be discussed and postpone the debate on the Zero Alcohol Law until April .

After getting up from their benches shouting, the members of the Juntos por el Cambio blocs and the dissident Peronism of Unidad Federal decided to leave the premises and left the ruling party of the Frente de Todos without a quorum, which was left with 34 senators present.
