After a heated argument, Myriam Ullens was fatally shot in Lasne by her son-in-law. Her husband, Baron Guy Ullens, was injured but by her side.

On Wednesday March 29, a tragic incident occurred in Ohain (Lasne), in which Mrs. Myriam Lechien (70 years old) was found dead with several gunshot wounds in a Golf car parked on the driver’s side, alongside her husband, Mr. Guy Ullens from Schooten, who was injured and in shock. Their son, Mr. Nicolas Ullens de Schooten (57 years old), turned himself in to the La Mazerine police around 10:50 am the same day, revealing that he had shot his stepmother and was subsequently detained. The Walloon Brabant prosecutor’s office reported that the forensic laboratory and investigating judge were assigned to the case. After a family conflict, Mr. Nicolas Ullens de Schooten had asked to leave his father and stepmother’s residence but ended up waiting for them outside. He collided with their car before shooting Mrs. Myriam Lechien six times. The suspect has been charged with murder and violation of weapons law and will appear before the council chamber of the Walloon Brabant court of first instance on Monday, April 3 for the extension of his preventive detention.

The tragedy occurred on the morning of Wednesday March 29 in Ohain (Lasne). The police of La Mazerine (Lasne – Rixensart – La Hulpe) found there, in a Golf brand vehicle, on the driver’s side, the lifeless body of Mrs. Myriam Lechien (70 years old) who presented several gunshot wounds, communicates the Walloon Brabant prosecutor’s office. Her husband, Mr. Guy Ullens from Schooten was at her side, shocked and injured in the leg. He was taken to hospital.

Previously, Mr. Nicolas Ullens de Schooten (57 years old), the son of Mr. Ullens de Schooten and step-son of Mrs. Myriam Lechien had presented himself spontaneously to the local police of La Mazerine around 10:50 am. He had put up no resistance and had explained that he had killed his stepmother. He was carrying a handgun which was seized. He was deprived of his liberty.

The judicial police of Walloon Brabant were in charge of the investigation. The forensic laboratory descended on the scene. An investigating judge was requested by the prosecution. A raid took place on the scene in the presence of a forensic scientist and a ballistics expert. The suspect was heard by the investigating judge this Thursday, March 30, 2023. An arrest warrant was issued and the suspect was charged with murder and a violation of the law on weapons. The suspect explains his gesture in the context of a family conflict, in particular of a financial nature.

After a discussion that would have gone badly in the residence of his father and his stepmother, Mr Nicolas Ullens de Schooten would have been asked to leave the premises because his father and his stepmother had to leave. He would have waited for the exit of the vehicle piloted by his mother-in-law in which his father was the front passenger.

When the vehicle arrived, he hit it with his own car and then got out and fired several times in the direction of Mrs. Myriam Lechien. According to the findings on the spot, the suspect would have fired 6 times. He must appear this Monday, April 3 before the council chamber of the Walloon Brabant court of first instance, which must rule on the confirmation and extension of the preventive detention.
