XXL feat achieved by the club of Roeselare in Volleyball! While the Belgian club faced Modena in the first leg of the CEV Cup, the second biggest European competition following the Champions League, he struck a huge blow by pocketing the three sets on Italian soil: 21-25, 23-25, 21-25.
A lavish success which was far from guaranteed as the adversary, Modena, the most successful club in the history of the Italian championship, is a club of high caliber. But a successful first set, thanks in particular to an absence of fault and a certain accuracy in attack, allowed the Belgians to garner the confidence to take the lead (21-25).
The second round, more contested, will be of the same ilk: thanks to the distribution of D’Hulst, and the power of Kukartsev and Verhannemanthe two safe bets of the season, the Roulariens won (23-25).
It then remained to complete the work, and to keep a cool head in the money-time of the 3rd set. The KO point will finally fall on an ace from Kukartsev (21-25).
Thanks to this resounding victory, Roeselare takes a big step towards the European title. It will be enough to win… two sets at home to lift the trophy. Gigantic!
