Stage 2 Information Session

The Canadian Biomedical Research Fund (CBRF) and the Biological Sciences Research Infrastructure Fund (BIRSB) recently launched Stage 2 of their fundraising competition. This competition is part of the Canada’s Biomanufacturing and Life Sciences Strategy and provides an envelope of $575M to fund proposals aimed at preparing for future pandemics. These proposals must have the following objectives:

  • Increasing specialized infrastructure and multidisciplinary applied research capacity;
  • Support for training and skills development to expand the pipeline of qualified research talent;
  • Accelerating the transition from promising research results to commercially viable processes and products.

In addition, all proposals must be supported by one of the clusters funded at Stage 1 by FRBC and FIRSB. The five poles are:

  • PPPeC – Pandemic Preparedness Hub of Eastern Canadaled by the University of Montreal in co-direction with McGill and Laval universities
  • HI3 – Canadian Hub for Health Intelligence & Innovation in Infectious Diseasesled by University of Toronto
  • CP2H – Canadian Pandemic Preparedness Hubled by the University of Ottawa
  • Prairie Hubled by University of Alberta
  • CIEHV – Canada’s Immuno-Engineering & Biomanufacturing Hubled by University of British Columbia

In order to prepare the next steps and coordinate efforts within UdeM, we first invite you to a information session which will be held this Thursday, March 30 from noon to 1 p.m..

Ms. Annie Villeneuve, senior research advisor – health sector at the BRDV, will present the mandate of the various institutional stakeholders.

Mrs. Arianne Trudeau, Executive Director of the PPPeC, will be invited to present the role of the Pole in this competition.

Following this first session, a networking session will take place Tuesday April 18, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., to share the latest information regarding the competition, and to discuss opportunities for collaborative projects and joint initiatives between researchers working on campus or in affiliated centers. A round table type lunch will follow to facilitate discussions.
