Pope Francis has been hospitalized with a respiratory infection unrelated to the coronavirus. He will spend several days in the hospital for treatment. This was reported by the press service of the Holy See.

According to the press service, in the past few days, Francis has complained of breathing problems. Today, March 29, he underwent an examination at the Agostino Gemelli Foundation hospital, during which he was diagnosed with a respiratory infection. The press service explained that the doctors ruled out a coronavirus infection.

Earlier today, it was reported that Francis was undergoing a scheduled medical examination at a hospital in Rome. The press service of the Holy See did not specify the details of the examination. Italian agency ANSA reported that the health of the Pope is not in danger.

Pope Francis is 86 years old. In 2021, he underwent bowel surgery. He was also diagnosed with arthrosis, which is why the pontiff moves in a wheelchair.
