A family from Rio de Janeiro, consisting of a young couple with two small children, lived in a smaller apartment and wanted to rent a larger property, in Leblon, with a spacious living room to receive friends and family. Once they found their new home 240 m²the new tenants asked the architects Bitty Talbot e Cecilia Teixeiraby the Brise Arquitetura office, a renovation project for the entire social space and part of the intimate area.
“They wanted an apartment practical e easy to maintain on a daily basis to spend time with young children who, despite having a toy library at home, like to be close to their parents most of the time”, says Bitty.
The architects say that they had only three weeks to do a basic job of painting, lighting and synthesizing the existing floor before the family moves in. The furniture was bought piece by piece., in the final stretch of the work, totaling regarding six months until everything is ready. As the apartment is rented, the focus of the project was to design the layout and decorate spaces, without changing the floor plan of the property.
The floor made of wooden planks (which received new synthetics) and the wall of the current dining room lined with wooden panels were already in the apartment and were maintained, while the sofa in the living room with TV, the paintings and the couple’s objects came from the old apartment.
Even located one block from the beach, in the heart of Leblon and overlooking the Dois Irmãos hill, the property’s decor is far from beach-inspired. The architects chose to follow a more urban, contemporary and timeless styleinvest in a palette of sober tones and leave the colors for cushions and adornments in general.
“An amusing detail in the décor of the living room is that the large canvas on the wall facing the window was painted by the boys together with their grandfather”, informs the architect Cecília.
Among the new furniture in the social area, the architects prioritized pieces that might be easily reused in a new address, with similar dimensions. According to them, the icing on the cake is, without a doubt, the Rosá coffee table, signed by the designer Maria Candida Machadothe couple’s old consumption dream that was finally realized.
In the room shared by the boys, all the joinery was designed by the office, with a bunk bed for each brother to accommodate a friend or cousin who will sleep in the apartment. A wall was also applied wall with world map printfull of animals and means of transport that, in addition to decorating the space, also fulfills an educational function.
“The combination of jeans and red was also fun and each brother got a pillow with the initial of their name”, adds partner Cecília.
