President of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) Viktor Maigurov told reporters that biathletes can quit the security forces if this is the only obstacle to their participation in international competitions.

“Biathletes can be dismissed from law enforcement agencies, but only if this is the only obstacle. But now this is not the only obstacle that the IOC is talking regarding, ”Maygurov quotes “RIA Novosti”.

On March 28, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that Russian athletes be admitted to international competitions under a neutral flag. These recommendations do not apply, among other things, to those athletes who are related to the Russian army and other law enforcement agencies. There are many such biathletes in the Russian national team.

According to the head of the RRF, there will be a common position on the part of all sports federations. “The dialogue will continue, the decisions made by the IOC are made thanks to the quiet diplomacy of the Russian Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Sports. We had a telephone conversation with the leadership of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) on the eve of the World Championships, we invited them to our competitions with Belarusians, but they politely refused, referring to their calendar. I think that now the dialogue will be resumed,” Maygurov added.

In addition, Maygurov called the recommendations of the IOC unacceptable. “The position of the RRF converges with the position of the Ministry of Sports, the conditions for admission are unacceptable. The IBU has an executive committee meeting scheduled for today, where they will discuss everything regarding us. We are ready to return even tomorrow, but we do not build any special illusions, ”added the head of the RRF.

The IBU press service said that they took note of the recommendations of the IOC, but so far they do not plan to consider the issue of admitting Russians. They noted that the IBU Congress in September last year made a very clear decision not to allow Russians and Belarusians until circumstances change. “Of course, in the long term, the IBU is open to dialogue on how to reintegrate Russian and Belarusian athletes into our competitions, but given the current situation in Ukraine, the reasons that led to the decision of the congress are still valid and the time has not yet come reconsider this decision, TASS в MOTHER.
