Capitol assault: Pence to testify about conversations with Trump

A US judge has ordered former Vice President Mike Pence to testify regarding conversations he had with Donald Trump before the storming of the Capitol, multiple media reported Tuesday.

That magistrate, James Boasberg, wants Mr. Pence to provide answers to a federal grand jury regarding issues related to the investigation of potential crimes committed by the former president.

The decision is under seal and has not been made public. However, according to a source familiar with the matter, Mr. Pence may refuse to appear and provide an explanation regarding these actions on January 6, 2021. As President of the Senate, he was then responsible for certifying the results of the presidential election. .

Judge Boasberg’s motion represents a partial victory for the Justice Department, which is investigating the attack on the Capitol, in which five people died and several police officers were injured. More than 1000 people were arrested during this uprising.

Donald Trump is seeking a new presidential term in 2024 and Mike Pence might be among those who will challenge him for the Republican nomination.

Investigators are examining Mr. Trump’s role in the violence that erupted on January 6, 2021, as part of his bid to stay in power following losing the presidential race to Joe Biden.
