Minister Valenzuela ruled out new outbreaks of bird flu

He Minister of Agriculture, Esteban Valenzuela, headed this Tuesday a technical coordination table between the public and private sectors in order to reinforce the courses of action for avian influenza, disease that mainly affects birds and in our country has been affecting other species in recent weeks, such as black-necked swans and sea lions.

Regarding the evolution of the virus, the head of Agriculture specified that With the technical table, in which Senapred and the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) were present, they ratified the deployment of all public services, inter-ministerial cooperation with the delegations, of the Armed Forces, in each region where infected animals were reported.

In the case of the people involved in these findings, the SAG stated that they were in coordination with the central and regional Health Seremi to carry out the health tracking of the people who were in contact with the bird or who participated in the operations of land. So far, they confirmed, there are no cases of people infected with bird flu in Chile.

Despite the infections that are recorded, Minister Valenzuela pointed out that From the point of view of the industry there is “good news”, since “the white meat industry has “technically” eradicated avian influenza.

“There are no new outbreaks in the chicken industry. It is what is allowing Chile in the last few hours to make progress with the United States, with Mexico, and also in talks with the European Union and China, to be able to reopen exports,” concluded Valenzuela.
