For better or for worse, everyone will have their reasons, the name of Álvaro González Alzate is one of the most important in the Colombian Professional Soccer (FPC) environment. The foregoing is explained by his tradition in local football and by his positions as president of DIFUTBOL and as vice president of the Colombian Football Federation (FPC).
The Caldas leader spoke on the program ‘Dueños del Balón’ on RCN Radio Manizales and made clear on various issues related to the Colombian National Team and the FPC clubs. In addition, he also recounted his experience with Gianni Infantino at the FIFA Congress.

Historic FPC stadium would be “vetoed” by Conmebol
When talking regarding sports venues in Colombia, in this case the stadiums, González Alzate said that it has not yet been decided what might be a change of venue or a possible rotation of it for the matches of ‘La Tricolor’. However, he made it clear that Barranquilla continues to be the main option, because with ups and downs its capacity exceeds Bogotá, which left a great image as the venue for the South American U-20.

A detail that drew attention was that the manager stated that another historic stadium of the FPC would be “vetoed” for international tournaments. It is regarding the Palogrande de Manizales, because according to González, the local authorities have not paid “sufficient care and attention” to the leaders in charge of Conmebol events.
Also remember that, every time they offer the stage of the capital of Caldas for an event like the aforementioned youth championship, they are reminded of the incident in which the local authorities did not deliver the stadium in time for the U-23 Pre-Olympic Tournament played at the beginning of 2020.
Manizales is banned for international events. It is a very different thing to talk regarding a local tournament than a tournament governed by CONMEBOL (…).
Every time we offer Manizales as the venue for an event, we are reminded of the incident when the stadium was not delivered on time for a fair concert. In addition, in our area we do not have training fields.
