After a fall, a ski tourer had to be transported by helicopter from the Hallstatt Glacier on Sunday with serious injuries.
“Two friends, a 56-year-old from Vienna and a 37-year-old from Styria, took the Hunerkogel cable car from Ramsau am Dachstein (Styria) to the 2,700-meter-high Hunerkogel at around 9:30 a.m. on March 26, 2023. Because of the changing weather, they didn’t want to lose any time and immediately set off on their touring skis in the direction of Dirndlkolk or Dachstein. Then they drove down the Hallstatt glacier in the direction of the Simonyhütte.
Seriously injured in a fall
At around 11:45 a.m., the 56-year-old fell at an altitude of 1,940 meters and was seriously injured. The two doctors immediately recognized the seriousness of the situation and made an emergency call. The host of the Simonyhütte and two mountain rescuers from Hallstatt, who happened to be present, quickly reached the scene of the accident and provided first aid. A little later, the alarmed ambulance helicopter arrived and the crew was able to fly the injured man to a hospital,” the police said.
