Sandvik lands €58m mining order

Sandvik has received an order for mining equipment worth €58m. This is its third largest battery vehicle order to date.

Sandvik has been contracted by Canadian mining company Torex Gold Resources to supply a fleet of 35 mining vehicles for its Media Luna project in Mexico. The order, which includes 15 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and 20 conventional combustion engine units, is valued at approximately €58m and will be booked in the first quarter of 2023. This is Sandvik’s first order for battery in Latin America and its third battery-electric mining fleet order to date.

Equipment deliveries are expected to begin in Q3 2023 and continue through Q4 2025. BEVs include loaders and twin boom jumbos, and conventional equipment ordered includes loaders, trucks, bolters, production drills and a raise drill.

Torex plans to bring Media Luna into commercial production in early 2025, ramping up to 7,500 tonnes/day by 2027 and creating one of the largest underground mines in Mexico.
