Asunción, IP Agency.- The Chamber of Senators appointed Gustavo Santander Dans as Minister of the Supreme Court of Justice, to replace Gustavo Fretes.
The parliamentarians met this Monday in extraordinary session to elect the new minister to fill the vacancy left by Gustavo Fretes, who took advantage of the retirement benefit following turning 75 years of age.
The shortlist sent by the Judicial Council was made up of; Gustavo Adolfo Ocampos, María Teresa González de Daniel and Gustavo Enrique Santander Dans.
By nominal vote, Santander Dans obtained 44 votes and with this, the Plenary Session of the Upper House resolved to appoint him to the post of Minister of the Supreme Court. His designation will be forwarded to the Executive Branch.
In this regard, the head of state, Mario Abdo Benítez, had advanced this Monday morning at the Government Palace that, “it is very difficult for the president to reject a designation made by Congress”, so everything indicates that Gustavo Enrique Santander Dans would have the endorsement of the Executive to be the next minister of the Supreme Court of Justice.
