Improving eating habits in Ramadan reduces obesity

Some fasting people suffer from weight gain during the month of Ramadan despite not eating for long hours during the fasting day. Doctors attribute the weight gain to non-compliance with the type and quantity of food, in addition to lack of movement and lethargy following breakfast.

Obesity, which poses a threat to human health due to its close association with diabetes, heart disease and cancer, may be one of the most dangerous factors at present.

According to doctors, the month of Ramadan is an ideal opportunity to enjoy a normal weight, by adhering to a healthy diet and not overeating sweets.

Movement is one of the factors that help to control weight well in this month.

On the other hand, nutritionists and experts focus on the role of healthy foods in maintaining a normal weight, as cooking foods in alternative ways, either by boiling, grilling or roasting them, reduces the amount of fat that is usually found in Ramadan meals.

In this context, the clinical nutrition and obesity consultant, Dr. Samir Sami, told Sky News Arabia:

  • The month of Ramadan is an opportunity to get rid of wrong health behaviors.
  • Try to moderate meals during Ramadan, and act according to your health and weight.
  • Frying should be replaced by other methods, such as roasting in the oven, to reduce the levels of oils entering the body.
