TAIPEI (Archyde.com) – Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen said on Wednesday that she welcomed a large delegation from the Czech Republic to Taiwan.
A delegation of regarding 150 people headed by Mr. Adamovar, Speaker of the Czech House of Representatives, arrived in Taipei on the 25th. China has criticized the visit.
The president met with Speaker of the House of Representatives Adamovar at the presidential office and said he had come to Taiwan despite “strong pressure”.
“Taiwan and the Czech Republic have a history of authoritarian rule and a deep understanding that democracy is not easy to achieve, so we can make each other strong partners on the road to upholding democracy and freedom.” said.
“We believe in the same values and principles, especially freedom, democracy and the protection of human rights,” said Adamovar, Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Earlier, Economy Minister Wang Mei-hua also welcomed the large-scale delegation from the Czech Republic, saying that Taiwan is a member of the Democratic Alliance and can cooperate with many friendly countries.
On the 26th, China established diplomatic ties with Central American Honduras following breaking long-standing diplomatic ties with Taiwan.
Wang said the timing of the announcement by Honduras had nothing to do with the visit.
“The visit to Taiwan shows that Taiwan is a member of the democratic alliance,” he said. We will strengthen our substantive ties with many great democracies.”
“Taiwan is not only an important economic partner, but also a friendly and democratic partner that deserves our attention and support,” said House Speaker Adamover.
