Even in 2021, i.e. in the middle of a pandemic, cardiovascular diseases were by far the most common cause of death in Austria. Roughly a third of all deaths in this country are due to cardiovascular diseases. However, the mortality rate from cardiovascular disease has fallen by around 60 percent since the mid-1990s. And that, in addition to a number of other factors, is also due to initiatives such as the Austrian Heart Association.
With more than 10,000 members, the Heart Association is one of the largest patient self-help organizations in Austria. The aim of the association is to “prevent heart disease and help sufferers to achieve a high quality of life with their disease”. This is also the focus of a new edition of the Salzburg Heart Day: In the course of several lectures and subsequent question and answer sessions, broad information regarding heart diseases should be provided and greater awareness created.
The speakers, invited by the Salzburg arm of the Heart Association, will be announced in the course of the year. In any case, one speaker is Hubert Wallner, director of the interdisciplinary vascular center at the Cardinal Schwarzenberg Clinic in Schwarzach and at the same time president of the Salzburg Heart Association.
