Indian drugmaker Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd is expected to record lower revenue in some of its businesses and incur expenses following a “computer security incident” that occurred earlier this month.
The effects of the incident on the major pharmaceutical company’s computer systems include a breach of certain file systems and the theft of certain corporate and personal data, Sun Pharma said in a filing late Sunday. A ransomware group claimed responsibility for the incident.
Sun Pharma, known for its consumer health products such as Revital vitamins and painkiller Volini, recorded an increase of almost 14% in total sales to reach 112.41 billion rupees (1 $.37 billion) in the last quarter.
On March 2, the drugmaker reported the information security incident, adding that it had no impact on company operations. However, on Sunday the company said its lockdown measures had affected its business.
Sun Pharma said it had taken steps to remedy the impact with the help of experts and had “strengthened” security measures to deal with the situation.
The company said it was unable to determine other potential negative effects from the incident, including higher costs and the possibility of litigation.
