Intermarché and Delhaize: a new weekend under tension

Many supermarkets were still closed this weekend for the Delhaize and Carrefour brands. One thinks of the majority of Delhaize’s integrated stores, but also of a few Proxy and AD Delhaize whose staff have followed suit. These were sometimes punch actions which targeted stores which, according to the unions, did not respect the labor law, in particular the obligation to close 24 hours in a row once a week.

In the warehouses, several actions have also taken place. During the night from Friday to Saturday, tension rose in Zellik. “The situation became tense with a deployment of several police suits who were aggressive and who took pictures of the mobilized workers. The bailiff did not respect the law by not wanting to read the order to the strikers. Around 2:30 a.m., to avoid any confrontation, we decided to lift a picket and maintain the second. We condemn these totally unjustified deployments targeting a legitimate social movement and which will further harden the situation. Our determination is even stronger”, points out Jalil Bourhidane permanent CNE commerce.

Crisis at Delhaize: the PS pulls out the legislative arsenal once morest “this act of piracy directed once morest labor law”

At Intermarché, around fifteen stores closed this weekend. “But, since Saturday morning, a bailiff has been running on Hainaut, with a court order, breaking the right to strike and picket, until Monday midnight. Needless to say that the management of Mestdagh SA, with this kind of attitude, while itself regularly at odds with the regulations, aggravates the tensions and prefers the stick rather than negotiation. This management decision to take the dispute to court heralds a harmful and explosive climate, when it was already tense! All of this is a long way from the first employer announcement on the recovery, shouting loud and clear that real consultation with the unions would take place.”, comments Evelyne Zabus, for the CNE.
