In week 5 (ending February 4, 2023) in Canada, SSDVR participating laboratories reported 6,525 SARS-CoV-2 detections out of 56,805 tests (11.5% positive). Among respiratory viruses other than SARS-CoV-2, where testing volumes are lower (range 7,811 to 27,778 tests), almost all virus activity is within or below expected levels .
- Influenza activity remains low and stable at inter-seasonal levels. Influenza A accounts for the majority of influenza detections in Canada (206 detections; 0.7% positive) compared to influenza B (79 detections; 0.3% positive).
- Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) activity is declining. Compared to pre-pandemic seasons, RSV activity remains within expected levels typical for this time of year (1,667 detections; 7.1% positive).
- Activity of all respiratory viruses other than SARS-CoV-2 is near expected levels for this time of year.
