A lucrative photo radar

A photo radar has been set up near the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine bridge-tunnel in Quebec as a reminder to drivers not to exceed the 50 km/h limit in the construction zone. Road safety expert and racing driver Bertrand Godin warns drivers to be extra cautious when they see orange. The photo radar has already made over $400,000 in less than a month and is one of the most profitable in Quebec. Mr. Godin explains that the radar is most effective when traffic is flowing, and drivers transitioning from a 100 km/h zone to 70 km/h often exceed the limit. The radar is well-marked, and signs have been put up to signal its presence. Any driver caught violating the speed limit will receive a doubled fine due to the roadwork zone. With three lanes out of six closed until 2025, motorists should exercise caution when driving in the area.

It is also one of the most profitable photo radars in Quebec, bringing in more than $400,000 in less than a month.

“When there is a lot of traffic, it is not at this time that we will have the most tickets given, it is really when the traffic is fluid”, explains the road safety expert. “When people go from a 100 km/h zone to 70 km/h, they always think it’s 100 km/h.”

According to Mr. Godin, the photo radar is very well indicated at the entrance in each direction of the bridge-tunnel. Signs have been placed upstream of the photo radar to signal its presence to motorists.

“It is the great misfortune of those who are inattentive behind the wheel,” explains Mr. Godin. “Often people greatly exceed speed limits, so it’s necessary for worker safety.”

Quebec decided to install a photo radar on the site of the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnel, since some motorists exceeded the limit of 50 km / h.

Any user who is in violation will receive a fine whose amount will be doubled since it is a roadwork zone.

Remember that three lanes out of six are closed until 2025 to carry out the work on the bridge-tunnel.
