Hoyos: “The ÖVP is caught in its own powerlessness – with a constant eye on the coming elections to roll out the turquoise carpet for the next ‘Kickl-Leitner’ government.”
Vienna (OTS) – “With a Chancellor who celebrates the continued existence of the combustion engine, who dismisses climate change as ‘doomsday madness’, who supports a provincial governor who brings right-wing populists into government, there is no ‘Austria 2030’. Rather, Chancellor Nehammer would like to catapult Austria back into the last century,” NEOS Secretary General Douglas Hoyos reacted to the Chancellor’s interview in the ORF press hour.
According to Hoyos, the vision that Nehammer had in store for Austria was “empty, unambitious, backward-looking and hostile to innovation”. Austria might “never, ever be led back to the top”. “Every reform in the education system, every sustainable relief for working people, every innovation has been prevented by the ÖVP, as has all-day childcare. Without the blockers of the ÖVP, the good future might already be today. But instead of offering solutions and working for the people in Austria, the ÖVP under Karl Nehammer is caught up in its own lack of strength and listlessness – with a constant eye on the coming elections, in order to then vote the turquoise for the next ‘Kickl-Leitner’ government to be able to roll out the carpet.”
Because Lower Austria was just the beginning. Hoyos: “The ÖVP has shown in Lower Austria that it is purely regarding maintaining its own power. In doing so, she loses sight of people’s real concerns – and increasingly gambles away the trust of the population. The People’s Party as we once knew it no longer exists. The current squad around ÖVP boss and Chancellor Nehammer – whether turquoise or black – wants to stay in power at all costs and is ready to do anything for it. A progressive, pro-European majority as an alternative to a right-wing populist government with the FPÖ will therefore only exist with NEOS, both in Salzburg and in the federal government.”
