Woolly is a new TweetDeck client for Mastodon

Since Elon Musk started the saga of changes in the Twitter following the turbulent purchase process of the “bird”, some alternatives to the social network began to gain some prominence. One of the most popular of these is the decentralized social network Mastodonwhich launched in 2016 but has only recently started to gain significant traction.

Just like Twitter in its heyday, Mastodon releases an APIApplication programming interfaceor application programming interface.”>1 that allows the creation of third-party clients, which are nothing more than applications developed with the aim of improving the users’ experience with the main service. After following the launch of apps like Ivory and Mammoth, another one of them was launched yesterday, the Woolly.

Created by developer Matthew Villathe software has as one of its great differentials a greater visual proximity to Twitter — which is good for those who are migrating to Mastodon from Musk’s social network, but ended up finding the differences between the two platforms strange.

According to TechCrunchthese differences range from the layout and format of the main action buttons — with the “Reply” button on the left, the “Boost” button in the center and the “Favorite” button (in the shape of a heart) on the right —, to the layout of the content of threads in rows for easy reading.

Like a good client, Woolly also has customization options, such as the ability to pin multiple tabs with timelines, lists, bookmarks, searches, hashtags followed and even user profiles. All of them can have their own custom icons, which can make the app look even more unique.

Best of all, in the app for iPadOS, the different pinned tabs show their contents simultaneously in column format, which makes the user experience very similar to that of TweetDeck, the official Twitter client that has become increasingly popular. most left behind by the social network.

Woolly hit the App Store this week and is available for free to download, but a subscription is required. monthly (BRL 5) or anual (R$40) to use the main features of the app.
