Sharjah International Chess Championship to Begin Tomorrow with 200 players from 30 countries Participating, Announces Emirates News Agency

On Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 3:33 PM, the 28th Sharjah International Chess Championship will commence under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. The Sharjah Cultural Chess Club is organizing the tournament and it will include 200 male and female rapid chess players and 180 blitz chess players from 30 countries. The event will span over two days.

Sheikh Saud bin Abdulaziz Al Mualla, Chairman of the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club and President of the Arab Federation, praised the generous patronage and permanent honors bestowed upon the club and the players, and sponsorship of the tournament by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah. He noted that the championship has become the focus of attention of chess players all around the world, with large numbers of international players and masters from outside and inside the country participating in the new edition.

Jamal Al Midfa, Secretary-General of the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club, confirmed that the tournament will see participation from a considerable number of international masters from inside and outside the country, including 14 senior international masters and 6 international masters out of a total of 200 players in the rapid chess tournament. 180 players will be participating in the blitz chess tournament. The Referees Committee will be chaired by Faisal Al-Hammadi, an international referee, and assisted by Abdullah Murad, another international referee, as well as Hasan Turdeliyev from Uzbekistan, and a number of national and international referees from inside and outside the country.

The Sharjah Cultural Chess Club is the largest chess club in the world, including the regional office of the International Chess Federation and the headquarters of the Arab Chess Federation. SHARJAH, 25 March / WAM / Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, the 28th Sharjah International Chess Championship, organized by the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club, will start tomorrow.
200 male and female rapid chess players and 180 blitz chess players from 30 countries will participate in the tournament. The competition will be held over two days.
Sheikh Saud bin Abdulaziz Al Mualla, Chairman of the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club, President of the Arab Federation and Vice President of the International Federation of the Game, thanked and appreciated His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah for his generous patronage and permanent honors of the club and the players and his sponsorship of the tournament.
He said, “The Sharjah International Championship, in its new version, is witnessing the participation of large numbers of international players and masters from outside and inside the country, as the tournament has become the focus of attention of chess players worldwide.”
He added, “In all previous editions, we are accustomed to the successful organization, which befits the club’s status as the largest chess club in the world, which includes the regional office of the International Chess Federation and the headquarters of the Arab Chess Federation.”
