Simplicity of makeup – Zahrat Al Khaleej

The creative and photographic director of “Dior” make-up, Peter Phillips, takes “Zahrett Al Khaleej” magazine behind the scenes, exclusively, in the “Dior” fall-winter 2023-2024 fashion show, at Paris Fashion Week; To discuss the chosen beauty look, the main brand products. And with him was this dialogue:

What was the inspiration for the Dior beauty look?

– The stunning collection was designed by Portuguese artist, Joanna Vasconcelos, and is titled “Valkyrie Miss Dior,” but since it’s so complex, we wanted to keep the makeup simple; So it doesn’t blend in and get lost with the whole setup. However, we also wanted to convey that the “Dior woman” is very powerful and influential, so we chose eye makeup inspired by Juliette Greco, a French singer and actress from the fifties. We tried to replicate the mood she shows in the makeup, she has a very nostalgic way of singing and acting, there is something almost sad regarding it. A little sadness, a little heartbroken French girl, but at the same time a very strong woman. I kind of did a disjointed combination of smokey eye and eyeliner. And this is strong; Because it has this funky element to it, and it’s not very blendable, I also chose not to use mascara; Because it’s a bit more natural and refined; So this eye was paired with a luminous complexion.

What regarding the products used?

For luminous skin, I used Dior Forever Glow Veil primer and Dior Forever Skin Glow foundation, and if more coverage is needed, I use Dior Forever Skin Correct concealer. For the eyes, I used just two products: first, I used Dior show 24h Stylo eyeliner, then blended the shape with the other end of the liner. I also used the matte black color in the center of the Dior Black Bow eyeshadow palette. I used this; to add nuance to the liner with a deeper black in the center of the eye makeup with a feathered line; For a more blended look. As for the lips, I just used a little Dior Backstage Lip Sugar Scrub Self-vanishing, and Dior Lip Balm, in a satin finish. We also used touches of the new Dior Mattifying Blotting Papers, which only mattifies and is especially useful for the side of the nose and center of the forehead.

How do you get the perfect foundation color?

Good light is always key, but it’s hard. We are currently selecting 50 models for 50 different colours. More than 600 girls passed through the campaign, which is very special; Because there is no one skin tone at the same time. So, the best way to find the perfect color match is to try them on in good light, but I always suggest going to the counter, ordering a few samples, and trying to figure out how you wear the foundation throughout the day. And if you are not sure regarding using two shades, choose the light color; Because you can darken it with bronzer followingwards.

* How do you create a variety of makeup looks for different skin tones for the show?

– We have to make sure that the look suits different skin tones. So, we test our makeup on five to six girls of all races, and different skin tones. The same applies, too, to poetry; Because there are different types of hair.
