Cha Ju-young “Song Hye-kyo, who was full of consideration… I was concerned that school violence would be glorified” [인터뷰 종합]

Acting as Choi Hye-jeong in the Netflix original series ‘The Glory’
KBS 2TV’s weekend drama series ‘Ten Days’

[스포츠한국 김두연 기자] Actor Cha Ju-young (34) left his life’s work in his filmography. He acted out the emotions of ‘vanity’ and ‘desire’ and divided himself into the character itself. Cha Ju-young, who played the role of Choi Hye-jeong, a laundryman’s daughter and flight attendant in the Netflix original series ‘The Glory’, which was recently released and sounded an alarm regarding school violence, portrayed a character struggling to survive in the class that exists even within the perpetrator group.

“At the end of Season 1, I didn’t realize the public’s reaction, but now I think I can say I do. I was happy that not only the senior actors, but also the directors contacted me and said, ‘I saw it well’, and I was proud to think that they enjoyed watching it. There were also personal changes. Before she played Hyejeong, she was a rather prudent character, but now she tried to bring out only the good side of Hyejeong, who is trying to express it simply and without additions.”

‘The Glory’ depicts the story of Moon Dong-eun (Song Hye-kyo), whose soul was shattered by school violence as a child, meticulously prepared for revenge by risking her entire life, and those who fall into the vortex. Among them, Choi Hye-jung (Cha Ju-young) is one of the perpetrators who harass Moon Dong-eun. She is a character loved by the public for her bouncy acting tone and her candid expression of emotions, but since it was a socially heavy topic, she was wary of being glorified.

“If I make a mistake, I might be a character who stands out alone in the work, so I paid attention to that part, and sometimes I felt like ‘I’m filming another drama by myself’. But now I have more affection for Hyejeong than anyone else. However, since she is a ‘perpetrator of school violence’, I don’t think her behavior should be defended for any reason. She acted with the idea of not arousing sympathy for the perpetrator because of her lower rank.”

As much as it is a work that is attracting a lot of attention and topics worldwide beyond Korea, it leaves a deep followingtaste. The fun of finding out the artist’s hidden intentions through the online community as well as the ‘n second viewing’ of revisiting his works continues. The friendship of the actors is also continuing. In particular, Cha Joo-young talked regarding her co-stars, starting with breathing with Song Hye-kyo, who was the main character in her work and who had an emotional confrontation.

“(Song) Hye-kyo is such a wonderful actress and senior. Most of her scenes were scenes where her feelings were revealed, and she was grateful that her sister said, “This is your god,” and that she was considerate in many ways so that she might empathize, and she learned a lot. Among the scenes that were loved, the scene where Dongeun says ‘Hyejeongah, stewardess’ is also one of my favorite scenes. I’m getting along well with the actors Lim Ji-yeon and Kim Hi-ara, meeting often even in private.”

In particular, she honestly answers the bold exposure scene that became a hot topic. Cha Joo-young said of her, “There was no pressure on her exposure. He said, “It was a scene that Hyejeong needed, and I think it was a look that showed one-dimensional confidence to Hyejeong, who had only her body.” .

He said, “There was talk regarding CG over the exposure scene. In fact, there were various preparations on site. I was ready, too, and the double team and CG team were the same,” he said. In the bathtub scene with Jae-joon (Park Seong-hoon), he was helped by a double,” she said of the episode.

Even before the followingglow of ‘The Glory’ has gone, Cha Ju-young’s acting career continues. In the KBS 2TV weekend drama ‘The Real Appeared’, which aired for the first time on the 25th, she transformed into Jang Se-jin, the secretary’s office, and will express a completely different character from her previous work. Due to the nature of KBS weekend dramas with guaranteed viewer ratings, it is also an opportunity for her to spread her presence for a long time to various age groups.

“You won’t be able to see the image of stewardess Hyejeong at all. Jang Se-jin is a person who is moderately nice, moderately indifferent, and can face her side enough while living a daily life, and is working on it. She has a lot of acting that she hasn’t done yet, and a lot of acting that she wants to try. For the time being, she wants to have fun acting instead of feeling pressured by her previous work.”
