March 24, 2023
Dear Families,
Thank you for your continued partnership. Please see below for some updates from Hartford Public Schools.
On March 15th, twenty students from Weaver, Bulkeley, Great Path, Classical Magnet, and Hartford Public High School gathered for the first meeting of the 2022-23 Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council (SSAC). Students spent the day building relationships and working on their theory of leadership. The SSAC’s goal is to bring student voice into District decision-making to directly inform policies and practices. The group will also provide support for student action through student-led change projects.
I was so impressed with the students’ ideas, passion, and collaborative skills. I can’t wait to continue working with them and see the positive impact they have on our District. The SSAC will meet monthly and their reports will be available at the monthly Board of Education meetings.
Congratulations to the members of the newest junior chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)! Betances STEM partnered with NSBE and The Links to induct 19 students in Grades 5 through 8 into this new chapter, called “The Apollo Team.” The goal is to support young ladies and men – future engineers of color – through their academic journey. The Apollo Team will meet weekly with leaders in STEM to engage in Engineering design challenges and mentoring opportunities.
