Head of Korea Communications Commission, Han Sang-hyeok, seeks arrest warrant for TV Chosun re-approval

The chairman of the Korea Communications Commission, Han Sang-hyeok, is facing an arrest warrant following being accused of deliberately reducing TV Chosun’s re-approval review score. The Seoul Northern District Prosecutor’s Detective Division 5 colluded with executives of both the Korea Communications Commission and the former jury head to decrease TV Chosun’s evaluation score in public responsibility, a pivotal evaluation parameter. As a result, Chairman Han is now being sought by the authorities.

Last month, the prosecution conducted searches and seizures at Han’s office and residence, and following a 14-hour-long interrogation, he was deemed a suspect. Earlier, the former head of the re-approval review practice, the manager, and the jury head, Professor Yoon Mo, were apprehended and brought to trial by the prosecution.

On the 29th, a court hearing will decide whether Chairman Han will be arrested or not.

The prosecution has requested an arrest warrant for Han Sang-hyeok, chairman of the Korea Communications Commission, on charges of intentionally lowering TV Chosun’s re-approval review score.

Detective Division 5 of the Seoul Northern District Prosecutor’s Office today, at the time of the reapproval review of comprehensive programming channels in 2020, colluded with the executive of the Korea Communications Commission and the then head of the jury to lower the score in areas such as public responsibility, which is a key evaluation item among TV Chosun’s evaluation scores. An arrest warrant was issued for the chairman.

Previously, on the 16th of last month, the prosecution conducted a search and seizure of Chairman Han’s home and the office of the Korea Communications Commission, followed by a 14-hour intensive investigation by calling Chairman Han as a suspect.

Previously, the prosecution arrested the then director of re-approval review practice, the manager, and the head of the jury, Professor Yoon Mo, and already brought them to trial.

Whether or not to arrest Chairman Han will be decided through a court review on the 29th.
