This Thursday, March 23, 2023, a soldier shot a young man in a maquis in Sangoyah, in the commune of Matoto.
Following an altercation, Corporal Djan Bah used his firearm on Abdoulaye Camara according to the testimony of the manager of the maquis.
“The action happened when I was in our maquis, but you might never imagine that this soldier was going to do that, since they both come here regularly. This followingnoon, it was him (presumed guilty, editor’s note), the last to come, he found the name Zico (nickname of the victim) sitting. After a few arguments, the soldier fired his weapon, but fortunately it was not at close range, which is why the other did not give up the ghost. Then, the soldiers who were there and the young people took the direction of the camp battalion of the Military engineers of Sangoyah…”, explained Antoine Condé, person in charge of maquis where this drama takes place.
The victim’s younger brother says it was a premeditated act, as he is used to making such threats. Corporal Djan Bah would have repeated the same threats today before taking action.
“For three days, he has been making these threats in this maquis, that he is going to shoot someone. This morning he came with a friend in a vehicle they left by the side of the road. They went back into the maquis and several other people were sitting there. He took up the same thing, that is to say the threats and today he linked the act to the word. So we say he did it with intent. We ask that the maquis be closed. Had it not been for the agents and the intervention of the wise men, the young people were determined to do battle with him. We are asking Colonel Doumbouya to bring order to this unit,” explains the victim’s younger brother, Ousmane Camara.
According to Warrant Officer Mohamed Salia Fofana, on duty at the central police station in Matoto, the victim and the accused were sent to the military engineering PA in Sangoyah.
“It seems that he (soldier) is from the neighborhood and that all the young people know him. We came to find that the mob had already sent the victim to the PA of the Military Engineers. In order not to burn the car, our mission was to secure the car, tow it first and then go to the PA so that it (presumed guilty) was made available to us,” explained the Warrant Officer. Fofana.
