A competition called “La Meilleur Friterie” is taking place in Belgium where chip shops from different provinces will compete for seven weeks to win the title. Out of 2,000 applications, 12 passionate frituristes were selected to represent their province. Each week, two chip shops from a province are in competition, with this week being the province of Hainaut. Didier, a fryer for 30 years and a candidate for the show, is known for his fries and strong character. He insists on politeness in his chip shop, stating that saying hello is mandatory. The six qualified chip shops will compete in a qualifying event, with the grand finale broadcasted live on RTL TVI. “La Meilleur Friterie” can be watched every Thursday at 7:50 p.m. The competition is the biggest of its kind in Belgium.
For 7 weeks, chip shops from the provinces of Liège, Walloon Brabant, Namur, Brussels, Hainaut and Luxembourg will compete to win the precious title of “La Meilleur Friterie”. This is the biggest chip shop competition ever organized in Belgium.
Among the 2,000 applications received, 12 frituristes passionate regarding their profession were selected. Each week, a province is honored and the two chip shops that represent it are in competition. This Thursday, it is the turn of the province of Hainaut to enter the competition.
Didier, candidate for the show and fryer for 30 years, is a stickler for politeness. The 54-year-old man is as well known in Braine-le-Comte for his fries as for his strong character. “I have a big mouth and I assume“, explains the candidate.
As soon as he enters his chip shop, the man sets the tone. “Here, hello is not just a form of politeness, it is above all obligatory.“, can we read on the walls of his business.
“The good morning in the chip shop is as popular as the tartare. I can’t stand people who can’t say hello. I have already asked a client seven times to say hello“, adds the generous and passionate fryer.
The six chip shops qualified by the jury and the fans will represent the colors of their province in a qualifying event in order to access the grand final live.
