The Danone group announced on Wednesday “the end” of the famous red and green Badoit sparkling water bottles. These will be replaced by clear plastic models. The objective: to allow better recycling of these plastic bottles for food use, which was not possible until now.

The food group Danone announces on Wednesday “the end” of Badoit sparkling water bottles in red and green, replaced by transparent plastic models that can be recycled for food use. “As of today, consumers will be able to find transparent Badoit bottles at the various points of sale which will allow better recyclability in new bottles”, summarizes the press release.

Better recycling

Danone indicates that 70,000 tonnes of colored PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastic bottles are put on the market each year in France by all players, and that their “recycling into new bottles is still difficult today”.

“Until now, the colored bottles of our Badoit brand went through specialized recycling channels and were necessarily intended for uses other than food. From now on, the material of each recycled Badoit bottle can be used to manufacture new bottles if it is correctly sorted,” the group announces.

Danone’s “objective is to offer 100% recyclable packaging”

This change “allows Danone to take another step towards its objective of offering 100% of its packaging that is recyclable, reusable or compostable for the French market. reduce the use of virgin plastic,” the statement said.

Danone indicates “to study other solutions in favor of a circular economy such as the deposit for recycling or reuse”.
