Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu answered the words of Greek Cypriot Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kombos regarding the European Union’s “active involvement” in the resolution process of the Cyprus issue.
In his statement, Ertuğruloğlu stated that the new Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs made an unfortunate statement regarding the European Union’s “active involvement” in the resolution process of the Cyprus issue.
Reminding his new Greek counterpart that there is no solution process on Cyprus and that only following the TRNC’s realistic vision on Cyprus is accepted, a new negotiation process can begin between the two States, Minister Ertuğruloğlu said:
“The European Union, which does not fulfill any of its promises to the Turkish Cypriots and supports the Greek side unconditionally, should not be expected to participate in a possible negotiation process. Due to the nature of the negotiations, the consent of the parties is of vital importance in the decisions to be taken regarding the negotiation processes. The TRNC does not consent to the involvement of the European Union in any negotiation process, since the European Union, which has a partisan stance, still maintains this stance.”
