After seeing the nominees for the GDC Awards 2023 in January, the ceremony last Wednesday (22) during the event for game developers revealed its winners. And following the trend of the last awards, FromSoftware’s Elden Ring took the game of the year trophy, while God of War: Ragnarok won by popular vote..
Elden Ring also took home the awards for best visual art and best design. Meanwhile, the continuation of God of War still won the laurels of better audio and better technology.
Other popular titles from last year, such as Stray —the kitten indie game that won the hearts of gamers and pet parents—, Pentiment —from Obisidian— and IMMORTALITY —from Half Mermaid—, were also featured at the awards.
This year, industry legend John Romero also received the Lifetime Achievement Award, dedicated to his work, while Mabel Addis, America’s first game designer, received the Pioneer Award, for pioneers. The winners were chosen by the International Choice Awards Network, an invitation-only organization of game creators.
