The March 2023 Update for Windows 10 was made available to everyone last Tuesday (16). As well as Windows 11 users, who upgraded to “Moment 2” and had problems with slow SSDs, those using Windows 10 were also affected.
While reports of issues do not seem to occur on all computers, there are reports saying that the update cannot be installed on some machines. As a mandatory security update, it was automatically installed on all PCs. The big problem with the KB5023696 update is the increased speed of the cooler due to overheating of the notebook.
The WindowsLatest website says that following the KB5023696 update for Window 10, users reported experiencing performance issues, blue screen and others.
I gave the system several minutes to stabilize, but the fan continued to run at full power. Fan operation returned to normal following I uninstalled the update (so I’m back on the February update). I’m running a Dell 5490 AIO with Windows 10 version 22H2. I’ve reached out to Dell and Microsoft regarding this, but they still haven’t provided any ideas on the cause/solution.
There are reports of BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) and performance issues on Feedback Hub, Reddit, and the Microsoft forums. A Feedback Hub user says:
Installation seemed to proceed normally, but shortly following landing on the splash screen, there was a BSOD. Windows automatically rebooted and now appears to be OK. However, KB5023696 is listed as installing successfully under Quality Updates. Still, it’s not on the list of uninstall updates.
