On Tuesday, during the first day of research in the rubble of the heritage apartment building that was subjected to a fire in Old Montreal last week, a second victim was discovered. The body has been given to pathologists from the Laboratory of Forensic Sciences and Forensic Medicine to ascertain its identity. The Montreal Police Service spokesperson, Julien Lévesque, said that at least five people are still unaccounted for. Investigations are being carried out slowly and with great care due to the age of the building and the amount of debris present. Reports suggest that individuals from Quebec, Ontario, and the US were affected, and that some were illegally renting accommodation on Airbnb. Jonathan Clark, a friend of Saniya Khan and Dania Zafar, two still-missing victims, traveled from New York to assist with the search, saying that both women have been friends for a long time, and would continue to be so in death. Another victim, Anne Wu, a 31-year-old neuroscientist from San Diego, was in Montreal for a conference. To provide information on this matter, readers have been requested to contact the Journal de Québec at 1 800-63SCOOP.

The body was entrusted to pathologists from the Laboratory of Forensic Sciences and Forensic Medicine “in order to confirm the identity,” said Julien Lévesque, spokesperson for the Montreal Police Service.
It was the first time yesterday that police and firefighters were able to inspect the scene from the inside, using a crane and a basket, since the fire last Thursday.
At least five other people are still wanted.
Due to the heritage character, the instability of the building and the amount of debris, searches are being carried out with patience and meticulousness.
Came from New York
Jonathan Clark, a very close friend of a potential victim, traveled from New York to the scene of the tragedy.
He was walking around Old Montreal on Wednesday followingnoon, with a poster in his hands showing a photo of his friend Saniya Khan and her longtime friend, Dania Zafar. Both women have been missing since the fire.
Saniya Khan, 30, reportedly traveled to Montreal to visit Dania.
“They will be friends forever now,” Clark told TVA Nouvelles. They hadn’t seen each other for a very long time. »
” She was [pour moi] a good friend, he added. The best friend you can have with complete trust. She’ll miss me. »
Remember that the missing persons are from Quebec, Ontario and the United States, and that accommodation in the building was rented illegally on the Airbnb platform.
Another American, from San Diego, would also be among the victims, according to a relative who confided in TVA Nouvelles. Anne Wu, a 31-year-old neuroscientist, was in Montreal for a conference.
