In a statement received by Alsumaria News, Barzani said, “A group of people attacked the celebrants while they were lighting the Newroz flame in the midst of the celebrations on this occasion in Jandris district of the city of Afrin, killing four Kurdish citizens and injuring several others.”
He added, “We extend our sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims, and we are in solidarity with them, wishing a speedy recovery for the injured.”
“While we condemn this crime in the strongest terms, we call on officials in the region to hold the perpetrators accountable and bring them to justice,” Barzani said.
