The new Lamborghini V12, the model that replaces the Lamborghini Aventador, is a plug-in hybrid supercar that develops a total power of 1,015 hp It is equipped with a new 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox and all-wheel drive.

These are the main characteristics communicated in recent days by Lamborghini for the car which takes up the heritage of the brand’s 12-cylinder cars: Lamborghini 350 GT, Lamborghini 400 GT, Lamborghini Miura, Lamborghini Countach, Lamborghini Diablo, Lamborghini Murciélago, Lamborghini Aventador .

New information comes to us from Sant’Agata Bolognese on the different driving modes, the management of the two front electric motors and the rear electric motor, weight distribution, aerodynamics, the braking system and other characteristics that define the driving dynamics of the new sports car.

New Lamborghini V12: charging, hybrid and performance

The code name of the new Lamborghini V12 is LB744, waiting to see what this supercar will actually be called.

There are three programs to manage electrification, Recharge, Hybrid and Performance. The various driving mods are still available: Strada, Sport and Corsa, to which is now added City mode.

New V12 Lamborghini, City mode

In the “City” configuration, the power delivered is softened (maximum power of 180 ch) for driving at low speeds, in traffic, which allows the car to move solely thanks to electric power. When the lithium-ion battery drops below the minimum energy level, some of the power from the V12 motor is used to recharge it (in Recharge mode), which can also be done by plugging into an AC outlet with a maximum power of 7 kW. Under these conditions, the suspension, traction control and gearbox thresholds are also calibrated for maximum comfort.

New V12 Lamborghini, Strada mode

In Strada mode, the power is increased to 886 ch, with the V12 engine still running to provide a constant state of charge to the battery that powers the three electric motors. The twin front motors help define cornering lines through torque vectoring strategies, and the moving elements of active aerodynamics are positioned to maximize high-speed stability.

New V12 Lamborghini, Sport mode

By switching to “Sport” mode, the true character of the new Lamborghini V12 begins to manifest itself for each of the three electrification modes that can be combined (Recharge, Hybrid and Performance). In this situation, the gasoline V12 engine, supported by the hybrid module, achieves 907 ch, the gearbox also becomes more responsive, as do the suspension settings, with even the aerodynamics tuned to make the car quicker when changing direction.

New V12 Lamborghini, Corsa mode

By adding the contribution of the 6.5 L V12 to that of the electric motors, the total power at 1 015 ch. It is possible to deactivate the electronic traction and stability control ESC or activate the launch control by pressing and holding the button located in the center of the left steering wheel rotor.

New V12 Lamborghini, brakes and aerodynamics

As far as braking is concerned, you can count on a braking system with carboceramic discs of 410×38 mm at the front and 390×32 mm at the rear, with 10-piston calipers at the front and 4-piston at the back.

The grip of the tires on the ground is also managed by the active aerodynamics, which allows to obtain a downforce 66% higher than that of the Lamborghini Aventador S, compared to which the drag is also improved by 61% . The front splitter and roof shapes guide airflow, while the rear spoiler is a movable type and works in conjunction with the semi-active (wishbone) suspension to manage the vertical loads that determine grip. tires.

New Lamborghini V12: weight distribution

The arrangement of all these components, of these subsystems, derives from the layout of the new carbon fiber chassis of the Lamborghini V12 supercar, which loses 10% of its weight compared to that of the Aventador with 25% of additional torsional rigidity. This architecture allows a weight distribution of 44% at the front and 56% at the rear.

New V12 Lamborghini: torque vectoring, electric motors

The naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 engine sits mid-rear, with two front electric motors (one per wheel) that implement torque-vectoring strategies to provide more steering in tight corners and at the same time provide stability at high speeds, distributing the torque to each wheel.

The torque vector of the new Lamborghini V12 only intervenes on the brakes when strictly necessary and, during braking, the regeneration of electrical energy reduces the demand on the brakes, while helping to recharge the module’s battery hybrid.
