British Prime Minister: Confidence in the London police must be restored

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Tuesday acknowledged a loss of confidence in the London Metropolitan Police force, following the release of a report on the culture within it.

In an interview with the BBC on Tuesday, Sunak said confidence in the police force had been badly damaged by what had happened over the past year.

In response to a question regarding whether he thinks that his daughters in London can trust the police, he replied: “I need the answer to this question to be ‘yes’, but trust in the police is currently greatly damaged.”

The independent investigation report, published on Tuesday, described London’s police as institutionally racist and misogynistic.

The report added that the police did not take violence once morest women and girls seriously, and that within the Metropolitan Police there was widespread bullying and sexism.

It is noteworthy that the report was commissioned following a police officer kidnapped Sarah Everard (33 years) from London, taking advantage of his authority, then raped and killed her in March 2021, then scandals ensued following that, and in February, an officer was sentenced to several decades in prison for repeatedly raping dozens of women. over a period of regarding 20 years.
