He Traffic Department from National Civil Police (PNC) announced that operations are being strengthened to identify drunk drivers.
“One of the risk factors that cause traffic incidents is driving under the influence of alcohol; That is why the Traffic Department of the General Directorate of the National Civil Police has intensified the operations to control breathalyzers on weekends in different parts of the country,” the institution indicated.
This with the purpose of detecting pilots who drive while intoxicated.
According to Tránsito, these actions strategically respond to the studies prepared by the National Traffic Safety Observatory (Onset), which reflect that the highest percentage of road events occur on Saturdays and Sundays from 5:00 p.m. to 12:00 p.m. and during the early morning.
Actions
As indicated, these are the operations that will be carried out:
- Agents from the five departmental delegations and motorized patrols have been deployed, who are located in strategic areas such as the exit of Antigua Guatemala, Xela, the Port of San José, Puerto de Iztapa; Flores, Petén, Sanarate and in the Capital.
- The operations are aimed at drivers of private cars, motorists, heavy and collective transport.
- A high-tech breathalyzer equipment was recently acquired, which reinforces the actions of the police elements, whose primary purpose is to avoid and reduce the number of people killed and injured by incidents on the highways.
“The Traffic Department of the PNC reiterates its commitment to continue with the different education, prevention and awareness strategies to reduce deaths caused by road events in the country,” the entity asserts.
