DeSantis criticizes investigations against Trump

Prominent US Republican Ron DeSantis has criticized New York prosecutors for their investigations into ex-President Donald Trump. The governor of the state of Florida today accused prosecutor Alvin Bragg of running a “political spectacle”.

When a prosecutor ignores everyday crimes and instead deals with a case from years ago involving hush money payments to porn stars, they are pursuing a “political agenda” and using their office as a weapon. “That’s fundamentally wrong,” DeSantis said.

Charges are considered likely

The New York prosecutor is investigating the ousted ex-president for hush money payments to a porn actress and a model. An indictment seems increasingly likely. Trump even claimed over the weekend that he would be arrested on Tuesday. He called on his supporters to protest once morest it. Trump, who is running once more for a Republican presidential nomination, sees the actions in New York – like many other legal disputes – as a politically motivated “witch hunt”.

Trump’s environment had assured in advance that the ex-president would follow the usual procedure should there be an indictment – and would also voluntarily appear in court to find out details of possible charges. This would not require a sensational arrest. It is also considered likely that Trump might go home following such a formal procedure.

DeSanti’s main intra-party competitor

DeSantis is currently considered Trump’s biggest internal competitor. He is also expected to run as a presidential candidate in the November 2024 election. The governor of Florida had recently remained silent regarding the investigations in New York.

While DeSantis was now dishing out once morest the prosecutor in Manhattan, he also took a dig at Trump during his appearance. He mightn’t say anything regarding how it came regarding that a porn star was being paid hush money to ensure silence regarding an alleged affair of some kind. This earned DeSantis laughter from the audience.
