Imagine that you auctioned the abandoned contents of a rented shed without knowing what it was for US$250 (regarding BRL 1,311). Among the items, however, there is a Apple IIGScomputer released in 1986, along with several brand new accessories, still in plastic.
This is what happened to a Reddit user; according to a report by him on r / Apple (“community” regarding the company on the social network), he bought these relics “blindly” for a mere $ 250, and when he discovered that there was an Apple IIGS, nostalgia soon hit hard.
At the time (almost 40 years ago), the computer sold for $1,000. It’s impossible to try to estimate how much this machine might be worth today, but it’s certainly more than the $250 paid at auction.
In addition to the computer, items auctioned include the LaserWriter 2 printer, an AppleColor RGB monitor, as well as two 3.5-inch drives. Really a complete kit of the company! We can see in the image below even a user manual bound with a spiral.
The Apple IIGS was the company’s first device to carry the “GS” suffix, which referred to graphics e sound (graphics and sound). The computer was launched in 1986 as an improved version of the Apple II to face competitors like the Commodore Amiga and Atari ST, bringing a screen capable of displaying 4,096 colors and a stereo sound system with 16 channels.
At the time, the machine was a bestseller; more units of it were sold than all of the company’s other computers to date. Nobody imagined that the success would be tremendous that, even 37 years following the launch, there would still be someone acquiring the computer, huh?! ????
