Samsung might be regarding to introduce the first low-end phone without a charger included in its packaging, with other manufacturers taking notes to follow suit if the decision catches on.
Controversial decisions by manufacturers to cut costs they are nothing new anymore. First it was Apple, which from the iPhone 12 decided not to include helmets or headphones in the box. Then Samsung laughed regarding it… and soon following they copied the tactic. They were not the only ones. The truth is that it seems that Android manufacturers have a (bad) habit copy Apple’s decisions when managing their own market.
As we have learned today thanks to SAMMobileit seems that this trend of cutting costs by removing components from the boxes it will also affect the low end. At least that is what can be deduced from the latest rumors regarding the Samsung Galaxy A14, the next entry-level phone from the Koreans.
The first entry-level without a charger?
According to the medium, the Samsung Galaxy A14 (the non-5G version) it will come without charger in the box. If the rumor is true, this terminal would become the first input range without one of the essential components in its packaging. The information that is handled says that it will possibly come with a USB C male to USB C male cable, but there is no way to know if this is true. It should be borne in mind that most Chinese manufacturers still include the charger with its input and medium range terminals…
…but everything indicates that other manufacturers will follow suit. Last November, the decision of OPPO and OnePlus to remove chargers from their phone cases at points of sale in the Asian subcontinent. Prior to this decision, last August it was learned that Xiaomi would also remove the charger in its Redmi series. If Samsung’s experiment works, the list will certainly expand further.
It is true that most industry players have cited sustainability reasons to justify their decision, but on the other hand it is impossible not to observe how ironic it is that they continue to selling chargers with extra packaging. Isn’t this also unsustainable?

It will mount the Exynos 850 processor and will come in variants of 4 and 6 GB of RAM and 64 and 128 GB of internal memory (expandable via microSD card). The device will also offer dual SIM support, GPS, WiFi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC, and a USB C port.
